MISSION STATEMENT

"The Natural Resources Leadership Academy serves as a forum through which participants acquire knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to develop citizen-to-government relationships fostering respect, trust, and inclusivity that support effective natural resource stewardship."

NRLA'S HISTORY

NRLA was developed by the Division of Governmental Studies and Services, a university outreach center sponsored by the Political Science Department of the College of Liberal Arts and WSU Extension. NRLA is designed and developed as a multi-disciplinary collaborative leadership initiative offering innovative training, coaching and consultative services. NRLA is directed by Dr. Nicholas P. Lovrich, the project director; Michael J. Gaffney, project coordinator; and Kay Haaland, curriculum coordinator.

TRAINING

NRLA training, consulting and research services target all levels of professionals serving public agencies in state, federal, local, tribal, community, and non-profi t conservation organizations. NRLA training is ideal for natural resource and environmental protection professionals who work in resource management, environmental protection, and law enforcement. NRLA training:

  • Places participants in collaborative leadership roles
  • Involves on-going, real-time natural resource or environmental issues
  • Addresses current problems involving various elements of controversy or conflict
  • Expands personal, organizational, and community capacity for collaborative decision making and consensus building
